Gay Governors and The View

So I happened to be watching The View yesterday, waiting with anticipation to see how my  nemesis, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, would handle Governor Jim McGreevey. As I expected, she acted like the super-conservative Republican I knew she could be.

Perhaps I should explain...if you haven't seen the news in the last few years, Governor McGreevey was implicated in a sexual harrassment scandal that he claims was a consensual gay affair. Yes, he came out as gay even though he was married at the time, to a woman.

He recently published a book, "The Confession", which describes his struggles with his sexuality and how it affected his position in government. Apparently there is also a passage where he describes some of his "back alley" encounters.

So back to television. Yesterday morning, Elisabeth, in an incredibly agitated way, asked something like, Did you use condoms when you were in the back alleys? Cause you could have given something to your wife. (Now I can't remember her exact words - but this was indeed the sentiment). When he responded that of course he used condoms, Rosie stepped in to clear things up. She said, everyone - whether you are straight or gay - should be using condoms. Thank god for Rosie - who in this case felt like she needed to clarify that being gay doesn't mean you carry disease - which is sort of what Elisabeth was implying.

What is so disturbing about all of this, is that there are still plenty of people who think like Elisabeth. So if you too thought this, let me just say that we are all at risk. It doesn't matter who you sleep with, if you are not protected, then you are jeopardizing your sexual health.

Just thought I'd vent...did you see this take place? What were your thoughts?

It's hard for me to watch the View, mainly because of Elisabeth. I just think her views are very narrowminded in alot of scenarios. A few weeks ago, when she had that whole agitated outburst equating contraceptives to abortion. Good thing for Rosie for stepping in. I might have to find that on YouTube. Thanks for the headsup.
