Your Questions...Answered

The mailboxes here are filling up and it's my pleasure to answer your questions. But don't be upset if you don't see yours here just yet. I am trying to get to all of them. For now, here are some questions about condoms, discharge, the Pill, and the combination of alcohol and sex.

How do I know what size condom I need?

For the most part, the majority of men can wear regular condoms. And condoms are supposed to snug – definitely not loose fitting. However, if you feel like regular condoms are just too uncomfortable, then definitely give Magnums a try. But keep in mind that they shouldn’t be baggy or feel like they are going to slip off of you.

If I have a little bit of discharge everyday that's white and has no smell, is that a yeast infection or could it be something worse?

Discharge is probably the one thing that most people forget to tell you about as you’re growing up…but it is completely normal. It is just the vagina's way of cleaning itself out, so to speak. Most women produce some sort of white discharge regularly. However, if your discharge is greenish, smells badly or unusual, and you are feeling uncomfortable or itchy, that may be a sign of infection – possibly a yeast infection. But it sounds like what you experience isn’t anything to be concerned about. However, if you have other symptoms, you might want to check with your doctor.

I’m 18 and I’ve been with my boyfriend for almost 9 months now. We've been sexually active since March. We've always used condoms but I want to start going on the pill but I'm uncomfortable going to a gyno. Just the whole idea of some one poking at me down there just kinda creeps me out. I was wondering if there was any way I can get the pill without getting an exam.

Unfortunately, if you are ready to be sexually active then you should be ready to see a gynecologist – it’s just one of the things that you need to do in order to be a sexually responsible person. But keep in mind that there isn’t a lot of “poking” during the exam. And if you are a sexually active female, you need to see a gynecologist as soon as you become active or when you turn 18, whichever comes first. But to answer your question, it is unlikely that anyone will prescribe the Pill to you without an exam. And keep in mind that the Pill does not protect against STDs.  But if you're wondering what actually happens when you go to a gynecologist - here it is: First, they will take your history and do a thorough exam of your reproductive system and related parts. Your feet will be in stirrups and though you have no underwear on, your body is covered with your paper robe. The major part of the exam is a Pap Smear. This means they will insert a speculum into your vagina and swab the cervix to check for abnormal cells. They will also press down on your abdomen to check your ovaries and give you a breast exam. If you are at all uncomfortable, you should tell your doctor to try to be more gentle. The exam doesn't really hurt, it just may be a little bit uncomfortable if you are nervous and of course, being in the stirrups may feel strange. The doctor will also ask you about your sexual history - what you use for protection, and so on. But if you want to be tested for STDs, you will have to ask them for the tests. But remember, these are just things that women have to do to keep themselves healthy. Also, keep in mind that some appointments may vary slightly.

Why does my boyfriend not get hard when he's been drinking but he wants sex?

Yes, the irony of alcohol – it makes you horny but leaves you unable to performJ

Alcohol can damage the nerves necessary for erections and dilates the blood vessels in your penis, making an erection difficult to maintain. So if he wants to enjoy some time with you, he should lay off the booze. And don't forget, when we use alcohol we are less likely to use protection.

So remember, wherever you are and whatever you do, be sexy, be smart, be safe!

I have feelings for this guy and i have for quite a while now. we were seeing each other and then he said it wasnt fair to me and broke it off because of his ex. then when i had a party in my dorm room which he decided no to go to but his brother did and a friend and his ex girl friend all came up to party. So things got alittle crazy from strip poker, to absolute silence. I had about 10 mikes that night so i was pretty much gone. Well this guys brother ended up staying with me that night. Things then got heated up and i dont know why because i dont even find him remotely attractive nor do i really like him all that much to do that. SO now this guy that even though im not his girl friend, he got angry at me for being with his brother and now believes he cannot trust me. I am so completly lost, i dont know what to do.
