Sleazy Men in American Culture, Part I

In addition to welcoming your nominations of such men, I have chosen to begin today's post with two of my own personal nominations (in no particular order, however, these were the two who bothered me today): Ted Haggard and Kevin Federline.

Why these two men, you ask? Well, Ted, good ole Ted, is on my list simply because a man who proclaims that gays are sinners, and includes that whole "burn in hell" rhetoric and gets caught with another men (though yes, he still denies it), deserves some scrutiny. Why is it that the ones who are the most outspoken are often the ones who behind closed doors covet what they publicly consider evil?

And to top it all off, he's going to rehab. And let me just say, the whole idea of "spiritual recovery" is just plain wacky. Let's call a spade a spade. Some people are attracted to the same gender - big deal. It's a part of life, and a natural one at that. Then again, what exactly is "sexual immorality"? To me sexual immorality has to do with noncensensual sex - it's not immoral to have desires. And it is definitely not immoral to act upon them, unless doing so (with children or without consent) is illegal.

When are we going to get it through our heads that sexuality is innate and doesn't just shut off because it isn't convenient to have desires that go against our outspoken public persona? When can we stop injecting religion into our sex lives? When will we start realizing that, as my grandfather once told me, "An expression of God's love is making love" (and today we know that love is just not limited to men and women). That always made perfect sense to me - and apparently to my 81 year old grandfather. So what made him so progressive and why can't we stop sticking our heads in the bedrooms of our peers? Does it really matter what they do and who they do it with?

Okay, enough of that rant. My second Sleazy man of the week is Kevin Federline. (I know, not a huge surprise). However, I learned (admittedly through the gossip columns, so take that with a grain of salt) that K-Fed (or FedEx as Perez Hilton likes to call him) is planning on selling his honeymoon sex tape with Britney for $50 million - if he doesn't get what he wants from her. Okay, yes, this may be gossip - but the mere thought is abhorrent. And seriously, haven't people learned already that they need to lock those sex tapes up so that no one can get a hold of them? Or burn them...they're fun in the moment, but the longer you hold on to them, the more likely that they will be exposed for all to see.

Ugh. Any other nominations? I would love to hear them.
